Ambrose Burne is a designer maker based in the Welsh Marches. He specialises in high-quality forged architectural ironwork and sculptural objects that fuse contemporary ideas and design principles with traditional craft techniques to create elegant and durable products.
A range of commissioned work from the grand and elaborate through to the more utilitarian. No matter how large or small the commission, each gate is carefully crafted to include forged elements as decorative feature and ergonomic design in order to produce a beautiful and practical architectural feature.
Architectural features for the garden such as pergolas, gazebos and rose arches that enhance the site and sense of place. These substantial structures create a focal point - outdoor rooms, framing devices and support for planting.
An integral part of my practice is the production of sculptural objects. Both small and large, for interior and exterior, these pieces exploit the potential of forged steel and explore different methods of manipulating and joining the material in a purely aesthetic way. These works inform the style possibilities that can be diffused into the design of the more functional products that I make.
Over the past 2 years I have been developing the ‘Ferroseed’ series of sculptures exploring growth, movement & latent energy in plant forms; focussing on the logic & progression in components in relation to overall form.
Elegant and practical solutions to create safe barriers and enable unrestricted access up tricky steps & slopes. These handrails provide visual structure and punctuation to garden sites and pleasing architectural features for interior spaces.
